2000 23rd August
1813
In the south of the campaign area all is quiet.
General Conroux has concentrated his corps at Palencia. He is aware of the sounds of battle in the
direction of Castrillo, but has received no notification of what is
happening. He is not yet aware of the
battle at Aguillar. He is content to
hold the town as ordered, though is somewhat anxious about what is happening to
the north.
General Cole has concentrated his corps just west of
Palencia. He is under a lot of pressure
from Wellington who is just 10 miles away at Valladolid. Despite a series of impatient despatches
demanding action, Cole is determined to wait until all of his preparations are
complete and he feels the time is right to act.
