2000 19th August 1813
The first skirmish of the campaign has taken place at
Castrillo.
A brigade of British dragoons have been sent to recce the
town. As they approach they come under
artillery fire. They quickly withdraw
out of range, but not before they receive casualties. They have failed to obtain any other
information about the forces holding the town.
The allied columns to the north and south have also detected
enemy at Aguillar and Palencia.
The forward elements of both armies are now in contact.
During the night the corps commanders will have to decide how
to react now that they are in contact with the enemy.
